For five days in June 2015 three students from Design Products went to Valldaura green fab lab in Catalonia, Spain. They explored the house, farm and adjoining forest, focusing on what is needed and what is locally available.
During that time Edison, the rabbit, had only been a resident of the green fab lab for two weeks. He lived in isolation in a dark exposed brick room.
From off-cut materials available in the green fab lab's wood workshop Clea designed and made a flight of stairs that also acts as a rabbit house. The steps allow easy access for both humans and animals. Firstly, for cleaning and feeding the rabbits and secondly it allows the rabbits to come up, sit in the doorway, enjoy daylight and observe the surrounding area. To enable this, a light and airy hanging door was built, keeping Edison the rabbit in and Thor the dog out.
